Free Resources for Teaching, Education and COVID 19 Research and Insights

During this COVID-19 period, publishers around the world have opened up access to selected publications to enable displaced students and educators access to resources they need for eLearning as well as research articles relating to COVID-19.

The SUTD Library organised them into this list of authoritative sources that is offering free access to some of their Education resources and their latest research on COVID 19 as well as past publications relating to coronaviruses, public health, drug discovery, patient management and more.

In order to ensure that that your conferencing session is safe when you are using Zoom, please run through the following recommended settings to ensure that these are properly set when you are scheduling for your Zoom Meeting.

  • Using a unique ID for large or public Zoom call
           – This has been set to generate automatically
  • Require a meeting password
           – You can use the automatic password generated. Please avoid password that is easy to guess.
  • Creating a waiting room
           – Ensure that waiting room is enabled
  • Only the Host can share their screen
           – This has been turned on by default, to change this please refer to the guide attached.
  • Prevent Animated GIFs and other files in the chat
          – This has been disabled
  • Disable private chat
          – This has been disabled

To protect a conference session, the following actions are recommended to be used:

  • Create an Invite-Only meeting
          – Use schedule meetings, do not use Personal Meeting rooms
  • Lock a Meeting once it starts
          – Lock the meeting room once the session starts

During the call, if you observed illegitimate participants trying to disrupt the session, the following quick actions can be performed:

  1. Disable someone’s camera
  2. Mute the participant
  3. Kick someone out or put them on hold

Before and during any sessions, please ensure that Participants panel is always visible in your screen and everyone can help to scan through the participants’ list and alert the Host if illegitimate participants are spotted.
The attached guide, Securing Your Zoom Meetings provides the details on how each of these settings can be configured.

We hope that every host plays their part and check their session before creating the meeting session and perform the steps to check that each participant is legitimate before commencing on the conference session.

Last but not least, please check to ensure that your Zoom client is regularly updated from https://zoom.us/download#client_4meeting. The Zoom client will also check every time it is used, please proceed to update it when prompted.

Everyone can play a part to ensure that each conference session is safe for everyone.

If you have any questions, please contact the IT Service Desk at 6499-4500 or email to: help-it@sutd.edu.sg.
